The List of HVAC Installers Who Respect Science and Math

Corbett Lunsford

Welcome to The List. It's free to view, free to be listed on, I have no interest in stealing anyone's information or making a few bucks on a kickback:

https://homediagnosis.tv/hvac-installers

I've had people from Alaska to Manhattan asking where to find an HVAC installer who even understands how to read a Manual J calculation, and just assuring them that 'they're out there' is getting boring. Here is a FREE directory of those people, SELF-SELECTED. I am NOT vetting them. They vet themselves.

Good luck to us all.

How to Hide HVAC Grilles and Replace Your A/C Faster

Corbett Lunsford

My friends, DO NOT DO THIS. Friends don't let friends put HVAC grilles, especially the central return grille, anywhere a couch might end up backing up against it. Ceilings, great. High wall, fine. Floor, not so great but probably better than this. Learn more about HVAC performance by subscribing to our channel and joining our Patreon membership: https://Patreon.com/HomeDiagnosisTV

How NOT to Pick HVAC Registers and Grilles: Aria Vents Test Data Reviewed

Corbett Lunsford

One of my HVAC design clients sent me a question about these vent covers he found online, and it cracked open the whole basket of eggs. Here's a brain dump on how to look up the performance data on products like this. Here's a brand of decorative grilles that perform well- I know because I test them: https://stellarairdecorativeventcovers.com/

Static Pressure Testing for Home HVAC: What, Why, and How in 2 Minutes

Corbett Lunsford

If the ductwork of an HVAC system is not designed, installed, and maintained properly, your home may start to have problems in comfort, humidity control, dust, noise, and equipment failure. Here's the basics you should understand before asking your HVAC installer or service tech to run static pressure testing. Elegant HVAC Duct Design: the Rooms are Ducts, Too

Corbett Lunsford

Ductwork is more than just supplies and returns- the entire home enclosure is actually part of the ductwork. Here’s a quick demonstration of how to use room arrangements to direct airflow. From Season 2 episode 9 of 'Home Diagnosis' on PBS.

HVAC Zoning: Do You Need It, or Not?

Corbett Lunsford

We get asked this a lot, so here we're trying to explain as concisely as possible why zoning is often a symptom of a badly built home enclosure (or a poorly planned McMansion, obviously). If heat is bleeding through the skin of a home at a controlled rate in every room, there's no need to zone the HVAC system to give special attention to a weak link. There are no weak links in a well-tuned home enclosure, and so your HVAC system can be simpler with fewer components, and more sure to effectively condition the home.

HVAC Airflow Diagnostics: Testing Carved Grilles for CFM, Velocity, Pressure Drop, and K-Factor

Corbett Lunsford

Our longtime friend and Patreon supporter Scott Marner (who manages QA for Illinois' Ameren home performance program) joined me to do some off-label, outside-the-box diagnostics on custom decorative HVAC grilles from Stellar Air Vents (https://stellarairdecorativeventcovers.com/). Just one more example of some non-engineers getting very sophisticated results from a cardboard box, some tape, and several thousand dollars of Retrotec and Testo HVAC testing equipment (https://www.trutechtools.com/).
