HVAC Reality Check: Are Duct Systems Dumb or Essential?

Corbett Lunsford

Just wanted to spell out why central duct systems are a central part of ANY home design. Yes, ductless mini split heat pumps are awesome. Yes, radiant flooring is comfy. Yes, lots of people use decentralized HVAC strategies around the world and are happy with them (or at least they don't know what they're missing). Duct systems can be used to filter and deliver healthy air to every room in the house- humidified/dehumidified, diluted with outdoor air, and pressure relieved for kitchen exhaust. How the Best HVAC Equipment Gets Made: Fast Tour of Mitsubishi Cooling & Heating Headquarters

Corbett Lunsford

I've always wanted to go, and am finally learning some new tips and tricks that Mitsubishi puts into their high performance equipment to be a little more ballsy than other manufacturers. See a slice of the innovations in ducted heat pumps, ductless minisplits, testing at extreme environmental conditions, an 11-acre warehouse, a tech support division staffed by HVAC contractors with working demo units and controls, and more. Thanks also to Ryan Burrell who led the technical discussion (and who helped me select the exact Mitsubishi heat pumps that went into our new home).

Thanks to Matt Hoots (https://youtube.com/c/SawhorseDesignBuild) for putting together this trip to Mitsubishi's HQ in Atlanta GA.

Ultimate HVAC Install and Testing: High Performance Heat Pump and Ductless Mini-Split

Corbett Lunsford

Boy, were we lucky to have these two people help us get our heating and cooling engines running: Kaleb Saleeby from Kalos Services (https://www.kalosflorida.com/) and the HVAC School Podcast, and Brent Ridley from H&M Services in Atlanta (https://handmservicesinc.com/) and the Tool Pros Podcast. These Applied Scientists in HVAC take our Mitsubishi Electric heat pumps (one ductless mini-split, one ducted air handler) from unboxing to perfect performance, using the latest tools and techniques. And thanks to everyone else who helped us with guidance along the way!

Cleaning Ductless Mini-Splits

Corbett Lunsford

Home Diagnosis co-host Corbett Lunsford found out that his HVAC maintenance schedule was not adequate. In the highest performance tiny house on wheels in the world, the air quality goes downhill fast if you don't service the equipment. This is not a bash on mini-splits, it's a bash on how busy our lives get, and how many of us forget to maintain the machines that make our lives comfortable.
