Duct Design Tips & Replacing Furnaces with Heat Pumps with Alex Meaney

Corbett Lunsford

We're back again with my HVAC design calculations trainer Alex Meaney (https://MeanHVAC.com), to talk about ductwork and connections and filters and how to get all this right when replacing an old system in existing homes.

Whole House Fan Mythbusting

Corbett Lunsford

You know what I don’t like? When people try selling one product across America with pseudoscience or vague claims about benefits in home physics, chemistry, or microbiology. Here’s my rebuke to one specific instance of this kind of over-stated marketing in the world of ‘cooling your house as cheaply as humanly possible’.

How to Plan and Prep Ductwork

Corbett Lunsford

For our family's performance-tuned home, I’m giving you a deep-dive into the beginning stage of the heating/cooling and ventilation ducting throughout the house. See assembly, fastening, sealing with mastic (the good stuff, not the cheap stuff) for duct boot stacks and outdoor vent hood terminations.

Supply Ventilation for Homes: Mythbusting Side Effects

Corbett Lunsford

'Home Diagnosis' co-creator and building science trainer Corbett Lunsford has told many students that supply-only ventilation is dangerous for homes in cold climates- but is that scientifically proven? Watch performance testing that will demonstrate exactly what happens (or doesn't happen) when pressurizing a house with supply ventilation from outdoors.

Radiant Barrier: How Does It Work?

Corbett Lunsford

'Home Diagnosis' co-host Corbett Lunsford uses an infrared thermal camera to demonstrate how a radiant barrier works. This one is built into the Thermostat roof sheathing, and it needs to be kept clean and have an air gap against the radiant barrier coating.

How to Install WRB Sheathing (ForceField)

Corbett Lunsford

Grace and Corbett show the latest development on their home build- the wall sheathing, which is also the air tightness layer and weather barrier. It's called ForceField, and here you'll see a demo of why it's such an important component in the system, and how to install it for a higher performance home.

Damaged Building Materials: Fail or Fine?

Corbett Lunsford

Corbett and Grace are thrilled with their Rockwool insulation, but it came off the truck with a few dents. Let's suck it up and admit this happens every day, on build sites everywhere. More reason to maintain a calm, level head and make sure inspections and testing happen too.

Risinger and Lunsford at the HOMEChem Test House
